Chest Pain and Cough

Chest pain and cough is one of the most common symptoms for patients suffering from respiratory and lung disorders. Cough is first encountered when the lungs and respiratory organs are infested by pathogens but is treated as a minor symptom unless when accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, fever, headache and etc, only then is it taken serious.

Causes of chest pain and cough

There are different respiratory and lung disorders that causes chest pain as well as cough. Some of this diseases are

Asthma

This is a respiratory disorder which occurs due to an inflammation, creating difficulty in breathing. This disorder is always accompanied by shorthness of breath, coughing, wheezing and chest pain. People suffering from asthma are susceptible to allergic reaction. Asthma is one of the major causes of chest pain and cough in children.

Pneumonia

This is a lung infection which occurs when there is an inflammation of the lung, due to a bacterial or viral infection and is accompanied by shortness of breath, fever, chest pain and cough with mucus. Sometimes pneumonia is confused with bronchitis due to its similar symptoms.

Bronchitis

This is another respiratory infection which occurs when there is an inflammation in the bronchi of the trachea, due to a viral or bacteria infection and it is usually accompanied by shortness of breath, fever, headache and blocked nose. Causes of bronchitis includes exposure to industrial pollutants and smoke.

GERD(gastroesophageal reflux disease)

This is also known as acid reflux disease, which occurs when the stomach acid backs up into the esophagus to create a burning sensation or tightness in the heart. This is accompanied by chest pain, cough, nausea, heartburn and etc.

Tuberculosis

This is a lung disorder caused by a bacteria know as mycobacterium tuberculosis. This is normally accompanied by fever, fatigue, weight loss, cough and chest pain. It’s highly contagious especially to individuals with weak immune system.

Treatment for chest pain and cough

All these disorders can be treated effectively with the right treatment options or drugs, depending on the particular cause. For diseases caused by bacteria or viral infection, it can be effectively treated with the use of antibiotics and for diseases caused by GERD, this are treated with antacids. Asthma is an incurable disorder, however there are several treatment options that can help relieve the symptoms like medications, inhalers, nebulizers and etc.
