Most people feel chest pain are just caused by heart problems, but there are chest pain caused by stress and anxiety too. Stress and anxiety can caused chest pain which is experienced through a feeling of tightness in the chest. Chest pain is common with victims of stress and anxiety.

Chest pain caused by Stress

There are many unavoidable stress causing factors in our everyday life. These stress causing factors, sometimes causes strain and tension in our life. When this builds up, it can lead to serious mental and health problems. When one experiences too much stress, it causes an increase in the release of adrenaline and hormone, increase in heart rate, breathing faster, alertness, muscle contraction and so on, these changes can result to chest pain. Although chest pain caused by cardiac diseases and chest pain caused by stress may seem alike, chest pains caused by stress cannot be diagnosed biomedically.

One who is suffering from anxiety; a permanent state of worry or unease, could end up having very serious mental disorders, this causes a feeling of tightness in the chest, which leads to chest pain. This is one of the most common cause of both acute and mild chest pain. The chest pain occurs as a result of muscle contraction in the chest wall and it’s accompanied by various symptoms like pains in the shoulders, back and difficulty in breathing.

Treatment can be administered through stress test, stress management and various anxiety treatment.

This is a test carried out by doctors to determine how the heart functions under stressful conditions. This test can be carried out by putting the person in a stressful condition like walking on the treadmill, while the person’s heart and breathing are monitored. The main cause of the chest pain can also be diagnosed during this procedure and one can engage in different effective stress manangement techniques in order to reduce stress.

Anxiety treatment options

There are different anxiety treatment approach, a person suffering from anxiety can engage in, to reduce anxiety and chest pain. These includes behavioural therapy, like cognitive behavior therapy which help you to identify and channel your negative and irrational thinking that causes your anxiety, exposure therapy which helps you confront your fears in a safe and controlled environment. There are treatments administered through medications like antidepressants and benzodiazepines, although these are more effective when combined with behavioural therapy. There are also other treatment techniques for stress and anxiety like exercise, relaxation techniques, biofeedback and hypnosis.
