Groin Pain

Groin pain is usually caused by strained or pulled muscles of the groin region. This region is usually between the end of the abdomen and begining of the leg. This groin muscles is made up of the five adductor muscles which when strained or pulled due to over use, rapid movement or stress can cause pain in the groin area. This usually occur in athletes or sports people.

Symptoms of Groin Pain

Groin pain symptoms usually includes

  • Pain when running, walking or any rapid movement.
  • Radiating pain from the lower abdomen to the inner and upper thighs.
  • Intense pain after exercising or getting up in the morning after exercising.
  • There is pain felt in the genital areas and the anus.
  • In men, pain is also felt in the testicular area.
  • In some cases, a sharp pain is felt while in other cases, the pain is even more severe.

Causes of Groin Pain

There are different factors that cause groin pain, these factors includes

  • Hernia – this is a bulge in a part of the intestinal wall due to perforation of the abdominal wall, thereby leading to groin pain.
  • Kidney Stone – kidney stones are formed in the kidney out of the substances found in urine, this also leads to groin pain.
  • Orchitis – this is a condition which causes groin pain as a result of an inflammation of the testicles
  • Groin Swelling – this is as a result of swelling of the groin joint area.
  • Renal Stones – this condition causes a radiating pain in the groin area.
  • Hip Condition – a problem affecting the hip could cause pain in the groin area like arthritis, dislocation, fracture and gout.
  • Enlarged Lymph Glands – this occurs due to the enlargement of the lymph nodes.
  • Epididymitis – this occurs as a result of an inflammation of the tubular structure which connects the testicle with the vas deferens, this is also known as the epididymis.
  • Testicular Torsion – this condition occurs when there is a torsion of the testis.
  • Leydig Cell Tumor – this is a tumor of the testicles developed by cells that release male hormone in the testicles.
  • Medications – some medications like virilon, testopel, android, striant, androgel, also causes groin pain.
  • Other Causes – there are other problems that can lead to groin pain like testicular injury, scrotum pain, pelvic fracture, swollen groin lymph nodes, spinal disc disease, referred pain from another problem in the body, muscle pull and any groin condition.
