| June 6, 2012

Groin strain is an injury which affects the muscles of the inner thighs or groin. These muscles are known as the adductor muscles which runs from the inner pelvis to the inner thighs. These muscles aids in movement of the hip joint and pulling the legs together. They adductor muscles are five in number and any strain or pull of one or more of these muscles, leads to groin pain. This is usually common among atheletes and sportspeople.

Groin Strain Symptoms

  • A feeling of pain and tenderness in the groin region.
  • A feeling of pain when pulling your legs together.
  • A snapping feeling accompanied by severe pain when the injury occured.
  • Groin pain when raising your knee.

Types of Groin Strain

There are three types of groin pain depending on the degree of pull and severity of the condition.

Grade 1 – this is a slight tear on the groin muscles which causes little discomfort, there is no limit to physical activities, pain is only felt when running or walking.

Grade 2 – this is a moderate tear on the groin muscles with signs of swelling and bruising on the affected area, this can limit your physical activity and cause a little more discomfort than grade 1 strain.

Grade 3 – this a total tear or strain of the groin muscles which causes extreme pain on the groin area, it limits your physical activites and stops you from performing a simple task like picking something up from the floor. There are signs of swelling, bruising on the entire inner thighs and small lumps around the torn muscles.
