Knee Pain Causes

| June 24, 2012

There are different knee pain causes that lead to an intense and severe pain in the knee region and it is vital that you get to the root of these causes. Some knee injuries are generated by external traumatic events, whereas some are hereditary problems with one’s bones and genes. In any case, a knee injury is a crippling problem to live with, since it severely limits the movement of the afflicted person.

Causes of Knee Pain

Ligament Injury

The knee consists of several ligaments that is respnosible for its movement, somtimes the ligaments get damaged as well as torn, resulting from extra stretching or rigorous exercise. This is a distressing condition and it’s necessary for the individual to avoid putting any stress on the knee even as soon as the pain subsides. Several main ligaments that may get damaged include the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) along with the the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL).

Tendon Injury

Also called tendonitis, this is one of the cause of severe inner knee pain that afflicts individuals. This occurs when then Tendons attaching to the muscles on the bones inside the knee, gets inflamed or swollen, it causes significant amounts of pain. This injury increases the size of the knees uncontrollably, this will render the person unable to perform actvity at all. The patellar tendon is the one which is most commonly affected in athletes.

Meniscus Injury

The C-shaped cartilage that curls inside the knee is known as the meniscus, and this part is incredibly prone to damage and injury. This cartilage can experience a meniscus tear of any kind, and this causes severe pain to the individual. This is an injury that affects mostly athelete and sportspeople.

Dislocation

Another causes of knee pain is dislocation of the knee cap. This occurs where there is a considerable amount of trauma that collides contrary to the kneecap, thus dislocating it’s normal position. This knee cap is a triangular bone called the patella, and when it gets dislocated one could see it in a grotesque position at the frontal part of the knee. The dislocated kneecap swings around from side to side, this can create an unnecessary panic in someone.
